New Jersey Devils forward Adam Henrique heard a story on Twitter about a fan in need. He made a small gesture that’s sure to go a long way.

Just a few years ago, the New Jersey Devils were the worst social team in sports. Former general manager Lou Lamoriello was extremely old school, and with that he expected his players to be radio silent. Status quo as many liked to quip.

Thanks to a new front office philosophy, some of the Devils players have become the best follows on Twitter. Beau Bennett is hilariously self deprecating. Taylor Hall gave us the “lottery ball specialist” gem on his seldom used account. The team account is both fun and informative.

Adam Henrique may be the best follow of them all.

His gesture just days ago showed that the social aspect of the new Devils brings a whole new way to interact with this team. Henrique got a tweet from a fan with a heartbreaking story.

The Devils center spent made the effort to help a fan out with something that at the very least turned this fan’s day around a little bit.

It’s just a jersey. The value of that jersey definitely doesn’t replace what was lost in the fire, but many athletes get requests like that and completely ignore them.

More from Pucks and Pitchforks

This shows the kind of players the Devils currently have on its roster. The kind that make sure its fans are happy and in a good place. Henrique’s latest gesture is just one of many in a line of hospital visits, blood drives and community gatherings. Without the power of social media, these gestures would go unnoticed. Even more important, without Twitter Ashley Stanfield would have no chance to reach Adam Henrique. She would just have to live with the fire that destroyed her graduation cap. Instead, thanks to a new regime and a very good guy, she gets a little bit of happiness out of an awful situation.
