Well, it’s safe to say that Andrei Loktionov is here to stay in New Jersey. The 22 year old Russian scored his fourth goal of the season last night to give the New Jersey Devils a 4-1 lead in the second period. The goal helped pace the Devils to a 5-2 dominant victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Was it the best goal of the season for the Devils? You decide:

http://youtu.be/jy-smwn-Q54

Andrei Loktionov may have scored the goal of the season for the New Jersey Devils last night in a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
In 12 games since being traded from the Los Angeles Kings, Loktionov has scored four goals and has collected three assists. In his NHL career, he now has netted 11 goals and has registered ten assists.

Prior to Loktionov, Mattias Tedenby wore #21 for the Devils. After an impressive 2010-2011 season in which he scored eight goals and collected 14 assists, “someone” decided to buy a Tedenby jersey. Looking back, that was a mistake. Tedenby has only scored one NHL goal in the past two seasons and is currently recovering from a severe facial injury suffered in an AHL game.

As a friend said last night after Loktionov’s toe-drag goal, “You can spend $50 now or let a $200 jersey sit in your closet and collect dust.” I think I’ll wait a few more games, and then march down to the Stadium Shop in Newark’s Gateway Center to get the name plate changed from Tedenby to Loktionov. For now, I’ll stick with a throwback Patrik Elias jersey. After all, Saint Patrick’s Day is Sunday.

One thing’s for certain though. If Mattias Tedenby is back on the Devils this season, his sweater number will not be 21. Loktionov has 21 locked up and is ready to make some more noise as the Devils make their push for the playoffs.

On Friday night while playing for the Albany Devils, Mattias Tedenby was cut in the face by Adirondack Phantoms defenseman Brandon Manning. Tedenby skated to the net in the third period of Friday’s game and collided with Phantom goaltender Scott Munroe. In the course of the scramble for the puck in front, Tedenby was accidentally cut by Manning’s skate as Manning fell to the ice and his leg naturally flailed upward. Mattias was transported to the hospital immediately, and was accompanied by Albany’s General Manager Chris Lamoriello. It is not known how many stitches Tedenby received, but many reports say that over one hundred stitches were necessary. Thankfully, the cut did not extend to his neck and carotid arteries. Mattias is expected to be released from the hospital later today, and there is no time table for his return to the Albany Devils.

Mattias Tedenby suffered a facial injury after being cut by a skate Friday night in the AHL.
This injury adds to Tedenby’s recent bad luck. After playing the first four games for the New Jersey Devils, he was sent down to Albany because a hip injury suffered in the NHL opener was limiting his play. Returning to Albany, Tedenby sat out for two weeks to nurse his injury. Friday’s game was Tedenby’s first game back from this hip injury. Adding insult to injury, Tedenby was assessed a goaltender interference penalty after being cut in the face. The last month has not been friendly to Mattias Tedenby.

On a lighter note, fellow Swede Johan Hedberg added his thoughts after Tedenby told him he would be fine. “Good thing he has a girlfriend already.”
