Philadelphia, P.A. - The New Jersey Devils achieved something they have not done in the month of April, win a game. After two straight shutouts, the Devils shutout the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.

After a slow, scoreless first period for both teams, the Devils struck first. Ryan Carter ended the scoreless streak 5:36 into the second period when he got wide open in the slot.

The Flyers looked to have answered shortly after, but the goal was waved off because Jakub Voracek kicked the puck in the net.

Apr 18, 2013; Philadelphia, PA, USA; New Jersey Devils center Ryan Carter (20) scores against Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov (30) during the second period at the Wells Fargo Center. The Devils earned breathing room 14:10 into the third period. Matt D’Agostini received a breakaway after a beautiful backhand pass from Jacob Josefson. D’Agostini beat Ilya Bryzgalov through the five-hole. Adam Henrique later sealed the deal with an empty net goal.

The big story of tonight’s game was Martin Brodeur. Brodeur earned his 121st shutout of his career and 12th against the Flyers with 23 saves on 23 shots. The win gave Brodeur his 667th career win, ending the ominous winless spell when he achieved 666.

The Flyers had many chances with three power play opportunities, but could not beat Brodeur.

Apr 18, 2013; Philadelphia, PA, USA; New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur (30) makes a save against the Philadelphia Flyers during the second period at the Wells Fargo Center. Bryzgalov also played well in net, stopping 28 out of 30 shots he faced. Both goals the russian net-minder allowed came with no defensive help.

Nonetheless, the Devils earned tonight’s win and should boost the morale of the entire team.

The win snapped the Flyers two-game win streak and propelled the Devils into the 11th spot of the East. They now trail the eighth-seed New York Rangers by six points. Both teams have five games remaining. It improved the Devils record in the season series with the Flyers to 4-0-1, and 8-1-1 in their last ten.

Although it is highly unlikely, the Devils are still trying their hardest to make the playoffs. Do you believe in miracles?

The Devils return home Saturday at 1:00pm against the Florida Panthers.

Other Facts:
Attendance - 19,727

1st Star - Martin Brodeur (23 Saves, 1.000 SV%, SO)
2nd Star - Ryan Carter (Goal, 2 shots)
3rd Star - Ilya Bryzgalov (28 Saves, .9333 SV%)
