3 Last Minute New Jersey Devils Trade Packages For Timo Meier
The National Hockey League trade deadline is really heating up. The hot stove is already cooking hard and the New Jersey Devils are clearly a team that wants to be involved.
They certainly aren’t going to give up everything to go for it this season as this is just the first of many years but they would love to try and get better.
One player that is be available and fits their needs is San Jose Sharks star Timo Meier. We are getting close to knowing what San Jose wants back but other teams seem to be dropping out of the sweepstakes.
There have been other trades around the NHL lately that can influence the market but Meier is definitely the top target for any team.
If this trade is any indication of what the market is, the Devils might actually be able to pull off a deal because they have some pieces that can help them get it done. These are three trade packages that might get it done:
The New Jersey Devils could move on from Alex Holtz in this deal.
Timo Meier is a great player that is worth a fair return. Alexander Holtz was a very high draft pick that hasn’t advanced as some of the other players around him. However, the Sharks might be the perfect place for him to develop.
Holtz would be able to play with no pressure there in San Jose. He also already has chemistry with Sharks top prospect William Eklund from their days playing in Sweden. Seeing them play together in the AHL/NHL together would be interesting.
Fabian Zetterlund has been good at times for New Jersey but this would be a great way for him to grow his game even more. He’d play a lot more in San Jose. It would be tough to lose him but good players have to be traded for good players. The first round pick goes in all of these trades.
There are other high draft picks that the New Jersey Devils can offer.
The New Jersey Devils have had a good run with Jesper Boqvist but moving him might be good for everyone. He, like Holtz, has been okay but he hasn’t developed the way that we thought. There was a point where he was the number two prospect.
Shakir Mukhamadullin was the third of three first-round picks by the New Jersey Devils in 2020. He was a bit of a surprise pick but people still hold out hope for him. We don’t know if he is ever going to be coming to the Devils but they’d obviously like to see that happen.
With the San Jose Sharks, the opportunity to play a lot might be something for Mukhamadullin. With New Jersey, he’d really have to earn his position on the team and learn on the fly. It would be a great move for both of them as they Devils could really use Meier.
That first round pick is interesting. The Devils haven’t traded theirs in a really long time. Giving it up for Meier would be worth it because they are hoping that the pick lands in the late 20s. For the rebuilding Sharks, however, getting another first in a very deep draft would be lovely.
Maybe the San Jose Sharks just want a lot of New Jersey Devils prospects.
As far as the non-obvious untouchable players, the Devils should stay far away from trading Dawson Mercer, Luke Hughes, and Simon Nemec. All three of those guys could provide so much value to this team going forward.
Timo Meier coming to New Jersey would only be nice if he were joining this team with everyone good that they have right now. This is developing into a really nice team for the New Jersey Devils and they can’t ruin it.
In addition to the first round pick, the Sharks can look for lower (but still very good) prospects but want a lot of them. Adding in four along with the first rounder would be hard for New Jersey to do but it might be worth it if Meier continues to be a high-octane winger.
Graeme Clarke, Reilly Walsh, Seamus Case, and Kevin Bahl are all great players but could be in the mix for a deal like this. Again, as long as the price is right, this could be a great trade for New Jersey.
Meier would look good with Jack Hughes. He’d look good with Nico Hischier. Hey, you can even put him with Haula and have an Olympian on every line. No matter what, he’d make a great addition to this team for a variety of reasons.
