The New Jersey Devils, much like the rest of us, should have a few New Years resolutions.

The Devils ended 2015 on a two-game win streak, but before that they hadn’t won back-to-back in over a month (November 12th & 14th). Through 38 games the Devils sit in fourth in the Metropolitan and as we approach the mid point of the season are on the bubble of playoff contention, having just leapfrogged the Senators for the second wild card spot in the East.

At 19-14-5 New Jersey has been a dichotomy this season having dropped 4-of-5 to start the season then winning 6-of-7 over a two-week stretch to close the month of October. Since that stretch the Devils have only won back-to-back games on two occasions, however, they’ve also only lost back-to-back games three times.

The Devils haven’t even played .500 hockey for the past two months with 12 wins and 14 losses, three of which came in over time. There are several reasons for this struggle, and we’ll get into some of those, as well as talk about some of the positives as we take a look at five resolutions the New Jersey Devils should have.
