New Jersey Devils Daily: Joey Anderson, Core Players, More

NEWARK, NJ - MARCH 16: Taylor Hall
NEWARK, NJ - MARCH 16: Taylor Hall

On today’s New Jersey Devils Daily, Joey Anderson goes nuts on the World Juniors Summer Showcase, so what’s his ceiling? Also, after years of shuffling, is the next Devils core here already? Finally, a conversation with some of the best young players expected to make this year’s roster.

Joey Anderson has been filthy for Team USA in this year’s World Juniors Summer Showcase. He scored a hat trick against Team Canada in the finale, and even added an assist. Coming off this performance, Pucks and Pitchforks looks at the ceiling for Anderson. Can he rocket up the prospect rankings with Nico Hischier, Pavel Zacha and Steve Santini all losing prospect status?

New Jersey Devils: Joey Anderson Has Chance To Be Team’s Top Prospect

Pucks and Pitchforks also delves into the rivalry between the Devils and the New York Rangers over the past few years. Since Peter DeBoer left, the Hudson River Rivalry has been missing some spice. Both the Devils and the Rangers could use an increased focus on this rivalry. With the Devils being bad for five years now, the Rangers have looked past the team in New Jersey. For the benefit of both teams, the future of this hated rivalry looks bright.

New Jersey Devils Need Renewed Rivalry With New York Rangers

Alex Potts with All About The Jersey looks at the Devils as currently constructed and asks, “Is the next core already here?” The most obvious name is Taylor Hall. The stud left wing could be the star of the Devils for a decade if the Devils can get him to re-sign before next offseason. Others include high draft picks in Pavel Zacha, Nico Hischier and Michael McLeod. If they can prove the talent they’ve shown can translate to the NHL game, then this team will turn it around sooner rather than later. The biggest question mark is in net, where Cory Schneider is on the wrong side of 30. He has less tread on his goalie ties, but he still has less time than the other players mentioned.

Is the Next Core Here Already?

It’s always interesting to see how other teams see their opponents in the Metropolitan Division, and SB Nation’s Pensburgh did that with the Devils this weekend. The article makes some interesting observations coming from an outsider. Even more interesting is the fact that John Quenneville is on his third line, and Nico Hischier starts the season on a line with Adam Henrique and Marcus Johansson. He gives the Devils a ton of credit, calling them the most improved team in the division. Their fans still voted the Devils to get 31-35 wins, but the writer believes the Devils will finish the season much better than last year.

Keeping up with the Metropolitans: Devils Off-Season Edition

Leo Scaglione Jr. with the New England Hockey Journal spoke with three Devils prospects who will make a huge impact on the future. Steve Santini and Miles Wood talked about their first times on the ice. As kids, they both watched their fathers play time in the big leagues, so they grew up on the world’s greatest sport (don’t argue with me on this one). The article focuses a lot on the skate choices of those two and new draft pick Reilly Walsh. It’s an interesting read and something we haven’t seen from many writers on the internet today. Gives you an interesting look at the Devils young bloods.
