New Jersey Devils: Preseason Impressions Through Three Games
By Tyler Kelley
Goaltending
Name a Devils goaltender and you’re naming someone who’s either met or exceeded expectations so far. Cory Schneider only played a half a game but looked solid. I’d expect him to get a full game Saturday against the Rangers, and then maybe another half game against either Ottawa or Washington.
Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood, the duo that will likely backstop Binghamton this year, looked outstanding in their appearances. Wedgewood was a big question mark coming off an injury, but showed absolutely no signs of rust.
As for Blackwood, the 20 year old former 2nd round pick, showed exactly why the Devils can look at him as a huge asset moving forward. With exceptional size, Blackwood also showed outstanding lateral movement and a very solid fundamental game.
Finally, we get to Keith Kinkaid. Kinkaid played a full game against Montreal and backstopped the Devils to a victory. Kinkaid looks be in good form already stopping 43 of the 45 shots he’s faced so far.
The Devils goalies have not disappointed at all thus far.
