On today’s New Jersey Devils Daily, Glenn “Chico” Resch returns to be a radio analyst, the Devils unveil the largest arena scoreboard in the world and the story of Jesper Bratt as he rode an unlikely wave to the NHL.

The New Jersey Devils were in a weird situation. After letting go Sherry Ross, who was a pioneer for women in sports, the team couldn’t pick just anyone to replace her on the radio. Luckily, the team had Glenn “Chico” Resch in its back pocket. This move to put Chico next to Matt Loughlin will make everyone happy. He’s a familiar voice who is beloved by the franchise.

The Devils just unveiled the biggest in-arena scoreboard in the entire world. This thing is monstrous. It’s nearly four stories tall, and 88 thousand pounds (not that any of us were trying to lift it). There are 20 individual displays which can help the graphics team get very creative with the fan experience. This will be great for Devils games, and could be even better for bands coming in trying to make the concert experience better in an age of Spotify and Apple Music.

Tyler Kelley with Pucks and Pitchforks gives his last minute predictions for the Devils season. There are many reasons to believe the Devils will have a much better season than last year. One of the underlying element is it’s almost impossible to be as bad as the Devils were in overtime last season. The team went 3-14 in overtime and the shootout last year. That was pathetic. With highly skilled players like Nico Hischier and Marcus Johansson on the team, you’d have to imagine the shootout numbers will increase at the very least. Also, the 3-on-3 lineups will look much better.

MSG’s Ken Daneyko previews the Devils season with some optimism. He loves some of the moves GM Ray Shero made during the offseason. He says the aura around the team is really good after winning five games in the preseason. He calls the Metropolitan Division the hardest division in the NHL, so don’t expect the team to make much headway. Daneyko talks about what’s impressed him about Nico Hischier. Obviously, he has a lot of skill, but what’s impressed him the most was his presence on the defensive front.

Jesse Spector with NHL.com looks at the other Devils rookie that’s drawn excitement. Jesper Bratt came out of nowhere to make himself a spot in the Devils lineup. His situation is being compared to Ondrej Palat, who made the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2013 after getting selected in the 7th round of 2011. If Bratt was able to duplicate his production, every Devils fan would be happy.
