BUFFALO, NY - OCTOBER 9: Marcus Johansson

On today’s New Jersey Devils Daily, another big win to start the season, Jesper Bratt plays out of his mind and more on the partnership with the NWHL.

The New Jersey Devils played one of the best games in years, dominating the Buffalo Sabres to a 6-2 final. Chris Ryan with NJ.com looks at 10 takeaways from the win. The most interesting was the play of Brian Gibbons. He originally made the roster for his play on the penalty kill, but after scoring a goal and registering an assist, he showed he has more to bring to the table. Also, Cory Schneider was sharp. He allowed just two goals, one coming with a five-goal lead.

In that game, Nico Hischier scored his first of hopefully many points in his NHL career. He recorded an assist on what can only be called a beautiful play. He controlled the puck similar to Jaromir Jagr away from defenders, took it behind the net, and found Gibbons in front for the score. Andrew Gross with Northjersey.com spoke to the 18 year old after the game. As one would hope, he talked more about the team’s effort in a big win rather than his points. Also love the fact that when he described Gibbons goal, he said he went “top cheese.”

Pucks and Pitchforks looks into the performance of Jesper Bratt, who’s been the team’s best player in the first two games. He scored two goals and added an assist against Buffalo, including a beauty on the penalty kill. His play shorthanded is what is going to keep him on the Devils for the rest of the year. Sure, he can fall off completely before his nine game tryout is up, but nobody foresees that happening. He’s been out of his mind in the first two games, after a stellar preseason. His momentum is off the charts.

Mary Clarke with SB Nation shows the Devils are the talk of the hockey world. She talks about the Devils youth driving them to an undefeated first week. The Devils led the site’s Morning Skate segment after another big win. On a day where the NHL had seven games, including a two goal performance from Vladimir Tarasenko, the Devils dominate the headlines. This shows this may be a new era for Jersey’s team.

Morning Skate: Devils’ early season success tied to contributions from newcomers

Carol Schram with Forbes talks about the Devils new partnership with the newly named Metropolitan Riveters of the NWHL. The women’s hockey league desperately needed something to get them noticed, and this helps immensely. After a tough season last year where salaries were cut, this could turn things into another direction. This may drive the next generations of women’s hockey players right to New Jersey.
