On today’s New Jersey Devils Daily, John Hynes coaching very well to start the season, reviewing a great first month of the season and where the Devils sit in the power rankings.
It’s been a great start to the season for the New Jersey Devils, and a lot of the praise needs to go to head coach John Hynes. After some questionable moves to start the season (Brian Gibbons anyone?), he’s used his players almost perfectly. Tyler Kelley with Pucks and Pitchforks looks at some of the moves Hynes made in order to bring his team to an 8-2-0 record.

Pucks and Pitchforks also looks into the upcoming November schedule, which includes a Western Canada road trip this week. November is where everything fell apart for the Devils last season. After a 9-3-3 start, the Devils lost six of the month’s final seven games. With the schedule including another road trip of four games, the Devils need to avoid a bad month.

John Fisher with All About The Jersey reviews a great October for the Devils, where they won eight on ten games. The schedule for the month was weird, with a week off in the middle of everything. He looks at the 5v5 numbers, which spoiler alert aren’t very good. Obviously, the Devils play on special teams helps them get out of holes.

Once again, the power rankings are out across the league’s many outlets. Pro Hockey Talk puts the Devils in the top five after a four-point weekend. There is a random “for the time being” placed into the rankings. That seems to mean that writer Adam Gretz doesn’t seem to believe the Devils can hold onto their fourth position. Also to note, the New York Rangers ranked 29th in the rankings.

Speaking of the Rangers, it seems the Devils have sparked their interest. Karly Redpath with FanSided’s Blue Line Station writes about what the Rangers can learn for the Devils hot start. She thinks the Rangers should focus more on the young talent rather than the veterans. The Rangers are off to a terrible start, while the Devils have seemingly switched positions with their cross-Hudson rival.
