If waiting to hear about the Devils’ best player’s knee injury feels like deja vu all over again, you must also be a fan of one of my other favorite teams.
Not again!
My favorite team is playing Los Angeles. It’s a huge statement game coming off a big loss. Our best player is dominating the game. Life is great! This is what I want to see.
Then it all comes crashing down. Suddenly. Quickly. The dreaded knee injury. Total disaster. This is a New Jersey Devils fan site, right. So, I must to referring to Taylor Hall, correct?
Only I’m not. I’m describing Sunday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Carson Wentz, the Eagles’ best player, was hurt.
Waiting on injury updates is really tough!
Herein started an amazing series of events by all Eagles fans. Where is the Twitter picture of Carson in the chow line? How did he get to the bus? What did he look like coming down the stairs of the airplane? Could that instability you see walking down the tunnel be a partially torn ligament? How can I check that on WebMD? How did Ryan Tannehill look with that injury? What is Doug Pederson going to say at his press conference Monday at noon? Why is he two minutes late with the update? Why, why, why?
Well, as we know, that did not end well for the Eagles or their fans. Torn ACL. Out for the season. Total disaster. I get it, Nick Foles is a very good backup, but let’s be real here. He is not the leading MVP candidate. He’s not their best player. It’s a huge loss.
Fast forward to Tuesday evening. At least I can go to the Devils game. It’s got to be better than following the Carson Wentz situation on Twitter. And it is. The Devils played great. They dominated one of the best teams in the NHL. Even Travis Zajac scored!
Then, Taylor Hall goes down. Another knee injury. Back down the tunnel. No information. Let’s be real, without him, the Devils’ season is also over. He’s their best player, by far.
It was a Twilight Light Zone experience for me. Another 18 hours of checking Twitter constantly for updates, only this time it is Andrew Gross, Chris Ryan and Amanda Stein’s feeds instead of Zach Berman, Les Bowen and Eliot Shorr-Parks. Now, we are waiting on John Hynes’ noon update rather than Doug Pederson‘s. I’m not ready for this.
Tom Petty was right. The waiting really is the hardest part.
This is too eerie. Wentz and Hall both even will likely have guys named Nick replace them (Foles and Lappin). I just know #9 is going to be out for the season. I just know it.
Now it’s 1:00PM. An hour past the deadline. Is Twitter broken? I can’t see anything. Something must be terribly wrong. I literally don’t think I can take another athlete tweeting Proverbs and sending out inspiring video messages explaining why things are going to be okay this week. I’m pretty Taylor Hall wouldn’t do that, but that’s not the point. The point is, this whole situation is horrible. Again. For the second time this week. I’m a basket case!
Just checked Twitter again. AG just weighed in.
It’s just a contusion! Taylor Hall is day-to-day.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
What a relief.
I think I’m going to delete the Twitter app from my phone for a while.
