2. Miles Wood

This is ironic. Miles Wood won’t even be at training camp, at least not the first day. Yet, he has so much to lose over the next few weeks. Wood is fighting to prove he’s better than the 9 1/2 minutes of ice time he was given towards the end of the year. He’s got some of the best talent on the team, and is one of the fastest players in the league, yet for some reason the coaches still don’t completely trust him.

During negotiations, Ray Shero says there are philosophical issues with Wood’s contract. To me, that means he’s trying to get more playing time. He’s fighting to stay off the fourth line next season. How is he going to do that if he’s not there?

Honestly, Wood’s contract shouldn’t take too long, but he still needs to have a good camp. He’s trying to play with the likes of Kyle Palmieri or Pavel Zacha, not Brian Boyle (no offense). He wants to jump to around 14-16 minutes per game. Theoretically, he should be able to score 20-25 goals with more time on the ice. He’s going to need to fight for that.
