The New Jersey Devils were terrible this season ending the year with the third-worst record in the league. We grade each Devils player that ended this season with the franchise.

It’s been a crazy month. The Devils season ended with a few wins, but mostly a whimper. We watched the top seeded Tampa Bay Lightning get swept in the first round (why couldn’t we do that last season?). Then, the New Jersey Devils became the winners of the Jack Hughes sweepstakes.

Honestly, April has been the best month of the season. This season was totally worth it because we now get to watch Jack Hughes play hockey in a Devils jersey in perpetuity.

Still, many of the players on the roster now will be on either the New Jersey or Binghamton Devils roster in the future. Despite the euphoria that is winning the NHL Draft Lottery, we must grade this despicable Devils season that was.

A few rules before we get going: if the player was traded midseason away from the Devils, they aren’t getting a grade. Just in case you really wanted to know, Brian Boyle would have graded well, Keith Kinkaid would have graded terribly and Marcus Johansson would fall somewhere in the middle. Also, a player has to have played 10 games with the NHL club to get a grade. With the ridiculous amount of injuries to this team, that’s still A LOT of players. More than 30 players qualify.

One final rule is remember we are grading these players on a curve. I expect a lot more from Taylor Hall than I do from Miles Wood. So if someone has a better grade than Nico Hischier, that doesn’t mean we think a player is better than Hischier, we just think that player raised themselves up higher based off of expectations.

One last thing, we will list the players in alphabetical order. It’s more fun this way.
