New Jersey Devils star Taylor Hall was seen in the front row of the Toronto Raptors game with the team’s owners. Is this something we should use as a stepping stone to a new contract?

We as fans tend to look into everything and try to put pieces together to tell us something we want to hear. For more than a year now, we’ve been looking for those clues with New Jersey Devils superstar Taylor Hall. We’ve seen some of them, like when he mentions how happy he is with this franchise or when Ray Shero talks glowingly about number nine.

Then, we see things that feel a little more obvious, but could turn out to be nothing at all. We saw that on Monday night, when Taylor Hall was sitting inbetween Devils owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer at the Toronto Raptors playoff game.

That’s something you love to see. Sure, most people would take a free courtside seat to an NBA Playoff game, but why would you want to objectify yourself if you planned on leaving the team, or at least telling the team you didn’t want to re-sign, in couple months? It seems unlikely.

This isn’t the deciding factor as to why Hall will re-sign with the Devils. The team has to show they are willing to spend money (on players, not on basketball tickets) to make this team better.

This is likely the most important offseason in a long time. The Devils have a ton of cap space to use to make the team better this season, Jack Hughes will be drafted in a couple months, but the most important aspect of this offseason is what the team does with Taylor Hall.

We may be looking too far into Hall’s decisions, but we don’t have much else to go off of right now. I’ll tell you this, it’s definitely not a bad sign he’s willing to spend a night with his owners. Even if his owners own one of the teams on the court, it says something that while their team is entrenched in a playoff race, they are spending time to show their other star he’s a priority.
