The New Jersey Devils center has had an awesome start to his 2019 World Junior Championships tournament representing the Swiss.

The New Jersey Devils former first-overall pick is making waves at the 2019 IIHF World Championships. All the hype at the tournament for Devils fans has been the duel between Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko for the top spot in the 2019 draft, but Nico Hischier has quietly been dominating himself.

The Devils are going to tease us all the way to draft day on their decision between Hughes and Kakko, but one thing for sure is Hischier will be on the team and an impact player for a very long time. He is showing why he will be one of the best players on the Devils going forward and how important he is to the future.

Nico Hischier is known for his two-way game. His offense is secondary to his incredible defense, but everybody who watches him knows how creative he is and how he can generate scoring chances with the best of them. He has two goals and two assists for four points in two games for Switzerland. The Swiss are undefeated and are atop of Group B on the back of Hischier.

Hischier did something similar in his draft year. He made it interesting for a lot of teams at the 2017 World Junior Championships. The Swiss don’t usually stack up well with teams like Canada, United States, Sweden, or Finland but they gave everybody a scare because Nico was so dominant. That play earned him the first overall pick and now he is doing the same thing against men.
