New Jersey Devils:Jack Hughes Is Finally 18 Years Old
The potential number one overall pick is finally 18 years old, as he is getting ready to make his jump into the National Hockey League.
The New Jersey Devils potential first-overall choice in the 2019 NHL Draft, Jack Hughes, is 18 years old today! This is a milestone age for every person because you become a legal adult when you turn 18. For hockey players, it is an even bigger milestone.
Now that Hughes is 18, he is now officially eligible to play in the National Hockey League. He will more than likely be drafted by the Devils first overall and make his transition into the NHL next season.
His 18th birthday is just another milestone that he reached before hitting the 2019 NHL Draft. He is currently playing for the United States of America in the IIHF World Championships in Slovakia. He is the youngest player on the team.
As you may have read on Twitter, now that Hughes is 18 he no longer needs to wear a full cage in the tournament. He has already made the transition to the visor in practice and commented on how good it felt after the practice was over.
Hughes doesn’t have a point in his first two games of the tournament yet, but he has a limited role and doesn’t get the ice time he is used to. He is also coming off of a historical trip to the U-18 World Championships playing for the United States. This young man has played a lot of pressure-packed hockey over the last month and it is important to let him get his feet wet when playing against NHL caliber talent.
It is important for Jack to enjoy the journey he is on as he will be in the NHL soon enough. Once he picks up a few points there he will start to get hot. His game vs Great Britain might be a great time to get some touches, start registering some points, and felling good about his game. Happy Birthday, Jack. We hope there are many fun times ahead for you and the New Jersey Devils.
