The New Jersey Devils announced their roster for their 2019 summer development camp. The roster is loaded with young talent headlined by their #1 pick.
The New Jersey Devils had one of, if not the best offseason in the entire NHL. They made plenty of draft selections including taking Jack Hughes first overall in the NHL Draft. They are likely not done with improving the team this summer, but they are getting ready to do development camp for their young prospects. The team announced the roster for the camp on Monday, and there are lots of things to be excited about.
The roster includes 37 players which include 23 forwards, 10 defenseman, and four goalies. This is led by Hughes, who will bring the most hype to this camp. Hughes comes from the stacked United States Development Program. People compare him to guys like Patrick Kane and Johnny Gaudreau, meaning the sky is the limit with this kid. The Devils are hoping he can be the face of the franchise and be one of they keys to this team reaching a championship level.
It is going to be the first time we see players in red and black sweaters since their final game of the season in Florida. It will also be the first time we see Hughes skate around wearing Devil red. This is going to be fun to follow for all Devils fans to see him play with the rest of the prospects we have also been excited for.
Guys like Ty Smith, Jesper Boqvist, and Fabian Zetterlund will all be there. They will also be accompanied by other Devils prospects like Aarne Talvitie (who is still injured) and Reilly Walsh. There will also be some players there that have had some time in the NHL like Joey Anderson, Nathan Bastian, Michael McLeod, Brett Seney and Colton White.
It is the biggest collection of young Devils prospects in one camp and it will be the first time they get to play with a guy like Jack Hughes. These are the types of development camps that will be remembered if this team ever gets to the ultimate goal of the Stanley Cup.
You might remember when Nico Hischier was the first overall pick in 2017 and he had similar hype around him at the development camp. Hughes will draw the same attention if not more. It is an exciting time to be a Devils fan so make sure you follow along with us all week.
