The New Jersey Devils welcomed in one of their new additions to the organization on Thursday, and it was like nothing we’ve seen before.
The New Jersey Devils welcomed their newest star defenseman P.K. Subban to the organization on Thursday afternoon. His girlfriend, Olympic skier and gold medalist Lindsey Vonn, was in attendance with their dog Lucy. It was a major difference in the way players have been welcomed to the team in the past. It is nice to see a guy like this come to the team and make such an impact off the ice already.
Subban is already one of the faces of the franchise and he hasn’t even attended a training camp yet. The press conference for this guy was like nothing that any other player has received. The Devils content team has also been all over it. He is their header on Twitter, they have tweeted about Subban all day, and not just him but his dog too. Lucy is already starting to become the team dog.
He said all of the right things during his press conference and made everyone really happy to have him here. He believes this team is going somewhere quickly. P.K. is obsessed with the idea of winning the Stanley Cup with the Devils. He admittedly has high expectations of himself both on and off the ice, so we are all hopeful he lives up to them.
Subban had a bit of a down year by his standards in 2018-19, but he was also on a Nashville Predators team that was a loaded on defense as any team in the National Hockey League. When he gets to play games with the Devils, he is far and away the best defenseman on the team and will certainly play a much bigger role. It has been many years since the Devils have had a defenseman of this caliber.
This press conference got us all very excited for hockey to come back. It can’t get here soon enough, but when it does P.K. Subban will be a part of our team. The Devils are going to use his face for a lot of things media related. This trade has transformed the national view of the Devils completely.
There are other guys to market like Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, Kyle Palmieri, and Jack Hughes, but P.K. will get his fair share of promotion. This could cause the Devils to gain lots of respect both on and off the ice. This press conference is a sign of things to come for the Devils. They have fully embraced the P.K. Subban mindset, as they should.
