There is no denying that the injury bug has not been kind to the New Jersey Devils over the past few years. Big name players have either missed a majority of the season or have been streaky when it comes to durability.

Zach Parise had an injury back in 2010-11 that doomed that season. Ilya Kovalchuk missed a few games in the season before he ‘retired’. This past season Taylor Hall missed close to fifty games with a knee issue. Missing him was key factor to the team not meeting expectations. Not having the reigning MVP in your lineup with noone to step up to the plate doomed the Devils. Only two players were able to finish the year playing all eighty-two games, Damon Severson and resident ironman Andy Greene.

Other key players like Jesper Bratt, Marcus Johansson, and Sami Vatanen all played fifty games or less. Johansson only played ten games with the Bruins and also had injury problems with them. Kyle Palmieri missed eight games and has not played all 82 games since his first year with the Devils.

Whether it was just a fluke that last season noone could stay healthy remains to be seen this upcoming season. What if the injury bug laid dormant inside the locker room until this upcoming season? Hopefully not. Hopefully this post does not jinx any of the players listed. But here are the top five player injuries that could derail the Devils 2019-20 season.
