5 New Jersey Bands Ideal For A New Jersey Devils Goal Song
After several years of New Jersey Devils fans getting to listen to New Jersey band Gaslight Anthem’s “Howl” as the team’s goal song, now the team is holding an election for a new song. For years, the New Jersey Devils used Rock and Roll part II, but because of the despicable acts by Gary Glitter, the Devils smartly stopped using his music so he couldn’t profit off them. The New Jersey Devils recently posted a few days back a “goal song fan vote” on the NJ Devils website.
There is so much rich history for New Jersey Devils fans and expats alike that connects the New Jersey hockey and music scene. From a plethora of artists and bands to select from here are 5 ideal bands that could have fans nominate a goal song from a NJ band.
Gaslight Anthem
Gaslight Anthem is a New Brunswick, New Jersey based band that has been very fortunate to have had “Howl” airing after every Devils goal the past few seasons at the Prudential Center. One of the things fans will notice is that the Devils only made the playoffs once while this song was used. There are Devils fans that want to keep this super jovial jam going.
There has been a plethora of great moments from Nico Hischier scoring his first points to Taylor Hall winning the Hart Trophy in the 2017-2018 season, and getting the New Jersey Devils to their first playoffs since 2012. Even in the past few seasons, fans have warmed up to Gaslight Anthem opening up the door to more local bands. This kind of New Jersey pride has been getting untapped since the “One Jersey” campaign.
If fans had to vote on a song for the Devils goal song it should stay “Howl”. “Howl” is such a lively jam that people can’t stop playing it online. Bouncing Souls at one point in 2007-2008 inaugural season at the Prudential Center played “Ole.” Honestly, hearing Ole being blasted in between face-offs at Devils games last season really was a solid pick.

There is a band from Iselin, New Jersey called Palisades. Palisades is a very heavy metal rock band that has the New Jersey style of what Volbeat from Denmark brings. One of the variables Devils fans should listen in is their jam called “War.” It’s short, it’s indeed heavy, and this has an element of head banger music. For those who love to rock out to a song similar to Winnipeg Jets old goal song “Hell Yeah” by Rev Theory.
Anytime you go to a Devils game before the game and in warmups, it is very common to have heavy metal band music going through the loud speakers. However, in this part of the equation for a goal song it would be very intimidating to hear a metal band in the background after the Devils goal horn finishes up. What would make it amazing is that Springsteen sings a lot about his native New Jersey to begin with, so state pride is already established. His band the E Street Band knows how to surround him with amazing music just like how Martin Brodeur was surrounded by Scott Stevens, Ken Daneyko, and Scott Niedermayer on defense. To be perfectly clear, anyone who listens to Springsteen’s music would be glad to have a song that could have potential to be a good replacement if Gaslight Anthems’ “Howl” is indeed succeeded.
Over the years, as Devils fans we know if you recall the Montreal Canadiens had a local band named Loco Locass that played a song called “Le But” (the goal in French) that was one of the main stays for quite awhile in the Bell Centre. One of the things that was unique in that jam was it had a mix of Quebecois-French, and the love for the Montreal Canadiens. This team is a great sleeper pick, and a safe bet that is very likely a band that could unseat Gaslight Anthem for the new goal song.
