The New Jersey Devils are bad. Things have not been going according to plan and if they don’t fix things fast they are going to be a lottery team again.

The New Jersey Devils are in a tough spot. They are now 0-3-2 after being shutout by the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden. It was a game that they had their chances but Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask made some great saves and the Devils just couldn’t get one by him. It was not a great look for the struggling Devils to be shut out for the second time in three games. They are being heavily outscored on the road so far this season and that needs to change.

They were not able to contain the best players on the Boston Bruins as they were able to get goals from Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. There is something wrong and it needs to be fixed fast. You can’t trade the whole team but there are things that can be done to stop the bleeding. This is a team with lots of new faces and might need a little bit of time to gel but the need a win in the worst way.

There are lots of fans who think to fire the coach might be the way. It might be but it also might be an extreme overreaction. There are some lineup decisions that don’t seem right and he might need to be held accountable. That would be a decision for Ray Shero and the management group to make if they feel it is the right decision.

There is also the potential to make some call ups. There are players like Joey Anderson, Michael McLeod, and Nathan Bastian playing for the Binghamton Devils that might give a boost to the team as it is struggling with its roster as is. The question the team would face in that scenario would be who do they send down? Another decision that would have to be evaluated and made by Shero. The point is that they need to do something that gets a fire lit under them.

They need to get more from everyone. Their goaltenders are playing okay but they aren’t getting much in front of them, especially on the road. They need to figure out what the issue is and fix it fast. You can’t make the playoffs in October but you can take yourself way out of it. The Devils are back in action with a Monday afternoon matinée against the Florida Panthers. Hopefully, this is the day that they get that elusive first win of the season.
