The latest rumors coming out of Elliotte Friedman says that if the New Jersey Devils season doesn’t turn around, the Edmonton Oilers will be calling about Taylor Hall. If they do, who should Ray Shero target?

Yes, we’ve come to this. Just two weeks ago, the experts were reporting that the New Jersey Devils and the camp of Taylor Hall were seriously discussing a contract extension. Now, after six straight losses to start the season, the rumors are back to pointing at possible trade destinations for the Devils biggest star.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman spoke on the radio, saying that if Hall were to become available, one of the first teams knocking on Ray Shero’s door is a familiar one. The Edmonton Oilers have a brand new GM, a new coach and a new feeling after coming out to a 6-1-0 start. They are riding high, and looking to improve their team even further. We can’t blame them. They are the best team in the league right now. It’s early, but if they build off this early-season momentum by making a blockbuster trade, they can ride that wave of momentum through the whole season.

It’s hard for some of us Devils fans to even think about, but at the end of the day if Hall doesn’t see his future here, we have to trade him. He does not have a no-trade clause, so the Devils can trade him to any team in the league. Even if that is the original team that got rid of him.

So, we’re going to look at the entire Oilers roster and their prospect pool. We will dive into the best of the best, and tell you which players interest us most. Remember, this isn’t going to be a one-for-one trade. These are just some of the pieces we’d ask for in return in a trade with the Oilers.

Also, we’re going into this assuming that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are off limits. If they aren’t, obviously those are the moves to make, but adding Hall to lose one of them seems like a move in futility. Now, let’s get into the Edmonton Oilers players we’d want to see in a Taylor Hall trade.
