The New Jersey Devils are coming off a winning road trip and they need a big win over the Ottawa Senators to continue their upward trend.

The New Jersey Devils finally got back in the win column when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday afternoon. That made their road trip a winning one as they went 3-2-0. It was an okay trip, but they could have been better if we are being honest. They are now headed home for two games, and the first one is one they need to win. They are playing the Ottawa Senators, who are one of the worst teams in the entire National Hockey League.

No game is easy in the NHL and any team can win on any given day. The Senators have great players like Brady Tkachuk, Thomas Chabot, and Colin White. Those guys can make plays and help their team win games. With that said, if the Devils are really going to get back on track they need to beat a team of Ottawa’s caliber. They are a few years away from trying for the playoffs again and their rebuild is in the much earlier stages.

The Devils have a major talent advantage over the Senators. Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes can probably expect to have big games as the team’s top two centers. It is a good test to see what they can do if they are afforded some extra touches in this game. It would also be cool to see their wingers in Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmieri, and Jesper Bratt make some plays as well.

MacKenzie Blackwood is a safe bet to get the call in net for the Devils. He was very good in the win over the Canucks and Cory Schneider has struggled mightily over the last few weeks. It is a tough situation to be in because these two were supposed to create a solid tandem but only Blackwood has carried his weight. They should both get a start over the weekend’s back to back but MacKenzie should get the net in this Wednesday night game against the Senators.

This will be the first home game that the Devils have played in a while. They haven’t been bad on the road but earlier in the season they struggled to be consistent at home. If they can win this game they can feel good about their game on Friday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Obviously, the Senators are a team they should defeat but if they think it is an easy win they will get destroyed. As long as the Devils play the right way they should be able to lock up two points at home.
