The New Jersey Devils goalie has cleared waivers and he will be assigned to the Binghamton Devils of the American Hockey League.

The New Jersey Devils placed Cory Schneider on waivers on Monday for the purpose of sending him to the American Hockey League. It has been announced that he cleared waivers and he will be making his way to the Binghamton Devils. This isn’t a sight that New Jersey Devils fans saw coming as we went into the season but here we are.

Schneider has struggled mightily this season and it has been going on for quite some time now. He even struggled in the season that the Devils made it to the playoffs as Keith Kinkaid carried most of the load during that time. He did come into their series against the Tampa Bay Lightning and get a win while playing well. That made many people believe that he would be good to go going forward but that was not the case.

So far in 2019-20, he is 0-4-1 with a 4.59 goals-against average and a .852 save percentage. Those are not numbers Cor Schneider is used to putting up as he was once one of the best goalies in the world. The problem with that was the fact that he was an elite goalie on a bad Devils team that was always going nowhere. Now that the Devils are loaded with the talent needed to win games he couldn’t make a save.

His clearing waivers instead of being picked up means that his career in New Jersey is likely not over. He can be recalled to join the team at any time if there is an injury or one of the current guys on the roster struggles even worse than he did. MacKenzie Blackwood is going to be the number one going forward and they called up Louis Domingue to replace Schneider as the backup. Blackwood has played really well lately and the Devils have been winning games as a result. He even stole a win against the Pittsburgh Penguins because the Devils had no business winning that game. Sometimes good teams need goalie wins and Blackwood might be good enough to do that sometimes.

It is unknown how long Cory might have to spend in Binghamton or if the Devils are able to make a trade. The only thing that is important right now is that he goes down there and tries to find his game while Blackwood plays well with the big club.
