The New Jersey Devils are reeling but they had a feel-good moment in the game as Jesper Boqvist scored his first career NHL.

The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the Minnesota Wild by a final score of 3-2. It was a tough pill to swallow, as Zach Parise scored in the Minnesota win in his former home arena. The Wild are near the bottom of the Western Conference, so it was a chance for the Devils to pile up some points. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to execute.

They did, however, have a milestone night for one of their players. Jesper Boqvist scored his first career NHL goal in the loss. It has been a long time coming for the young forward. He has been in and out of the lineup all season long but there is a reason to believe he might be in now for a while. He is definitely in the long-term plans for the Devils so hopefully, he starts to heat up. The goal was also his first career point so the monkey is off his back and he can now focus on playing his game without the pressure of being pointless.

Boqvist has been battling all season long to stay in the lineup. This game marked the third in a row that he was in the lineup and he finally scored. He seems to have some good chemistry with Jack Hughes so maybe this duo can stay together for a long time. We already know what the first line of Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, and Kyle Palmieri can do so this second line being strong would go a long way.

This was a night that both Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes each had an assist on goals for the Devils. These two are extremely important for the Devils going forward as they want to be very deep in the middle of the ice. It is so important to have good centers and these two have a chance to be one of the best 1-2 punches in the league. Hischier is up to 13 points and Hughes is at 11. They are both going to put up monster numbers in their careers and this is just the beginning.

Outside of the good plays by a couple of forwards, this team needs help. They could all be even more productive, but they are being held back. They play a lethargic, boring style of play and they are not getting the best out of their abilities. They need to change something about that otherwise they are going to continue to lose games. This season is falling farther and farther from being a good one and it isn’t fun to watch. They need to be better all around.
