New Jersey Devils: A Fan’s Holiday Wishlist For This Team
The New Jersey Devils are going into the holiday break on a high note. There are some things fans should be wishing for this holiday season.
The New Jersey Devils are going into the holiday break on a high note following their big win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The big 7-1 victory has them feeling a little better about themselves heading into the holiday. They are now 12-19-5 and have 29 standings points. That is good for last in the Metropolitan Division. They have definitely struggled to meet expectations this season and that is putting it nicely. With all of that said, there is plenty to wish for this holiday season.
The first thing to wish for would obviously be for some more success following the break. This team came into the season with high expectations for a reason. They have the horses to feel like they can win some games. Nico Hischier said after a recent home win that he is not giving up and he shouldn’t. He is going to be a leader on this team for a long time and fans should get behind him. If the team can win seven out of the next ten or something along those lines they could really get themselves back in the picture.
Another thing they can wish for is development. Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes were both number one overall picks for a reason. They also have players on the young side that still have some development to do as well. The top priority for this organization should be the development of these players. This team has a bright future if they play their cards right in that department.
Most fans got their wishes already when the team fired John Hynes and traded Taylor Hall. Now, their wish should be that the team handles the trade deadline right and pick the right guy to be their long-term head coach. If these things happen, a quick turnaround could possibly happen. There is a lot of work to be done but if these two things happen then it would go a long way.
Sometimes fans like to be as negative as humanly possible. It is okay to be that way if that is how you want to be a fan but some people try really hard to believe in their team and the players on it. This holiday season is the perfect time to think about what this team needs to improve and get to the place that all of us want to see them get to.
