The New Jersey Devils have called Cory Schneider back up to the big club after some recent success in the American Hockey League.

The New Jersey Devils have struggled in net over the last year or so. With that said, MacKenzie Blackwood has taken over the net admirably over the past few weeks. He has been awesome, but he is currently out of the lineup dealing with an injury. Some recent success in the American Hockey League has led to the Devils calling Cory Schneider back up to the big club. This is his chance to come back up and show everyone that he is back.

He was on a heater in the AHL along with the rest of his Binghamton Devils teammates. He has taken his demotion in stride. He showed true professionalism by knowing that if he was going down for the betterment of the team. Now he gets his opportunity to prove himself once again.

Schneider was one of the best goalies in the entire NHL at one point before dealing with some injuries and declining play. In eight games played with Binghamton this season, he has a 3.00 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage. Those aren’t sparking numbers but they have vastly improved over the last few games. He has a less than ideal 4.59 goals-against average and .852 in six games with the New Jersey Devils this season. This is his big chance to improve those numbers and save his career.

He’s getting this call up because of his recent play. Over his last four games, he’s won every game, posted a .952 save percentage and only allowed five goals. Total. He’s clearly playing like he did at the end of last season, and maybe he can continue that hot streak into the NHL.

Most fans love Cory Schneider. There will certainly be a warm welcome for him at Prudential Center if he gets some game action. It is uncertain if he will start as Louis Domingue could get the start against his old team the Tampa Bay Lightning. If he does get in, the fans should go crazy if he has a good performance. He has been a great player for the Devils over the years so it would be nice to see him be picked up by his teammates. This is a big game for the Devils as they are coming off a big win over the Washington Capitals. If Schneider and the Devils can beat an elite Tampa Bay Lightning team, that would be a sparkling winning weekend.
