The New Jersey Devils have to play the Washington Capitals for the second time in a week tonight and it may be even tougher this time around.

The New Jersey Devils earned an impressive win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night. With help from their All-Star Nico Hischier and stud Blake Coleman, they beat up in them pretty good in an unexpected fashion. Washington led the entire league in points going into that game and New Jersey owned them. They also got a good goaltending performance from Louis Domingue as Washington tried really hard to make it close.

This time around, things might be different. Washington now knows what the Devils can do if they play their game. You know the story about Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie, and Evgeny Kuznetsov amongst others. They are an elite team that expects to win the Stanley Cup every season. They have a real chance to do that this year, so the Devils need to come ready to play.

This game is going to be significantly harder than the last one. You just don’t beat a team like Washington twice in the same week without some level of difficulty. The Devils are also probably a little mad as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat them pretty handily on Tuesday night. If both teams show up and play their game in this one, it could be a wildly entertaining game once again.

It would be nice to see the three forwards who have been the most impressive show up in this one. Nico Hischier, Nikita Gusev, and Blake Coleman have been on fire over the last few weeks. Nico is going to the All-Star game, Coleman is coming off a hat trick, and Gusev leads the team in assists. These three can all make an impact and might have to if they are going to defeat Washington.

It is less than ideal that they have to play Washington twice in a span of a week, but that is the way it is. There are no breaks in the schedule, even if you are in some turmoil as an organization. Things are hopefully going to get better for the Devils soon. They could really use another big win over the Capitals. It helped propel them to a big win the next night against the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning so maybe it could be good for them here too.
