The New Jersey Devils actually protected Mirco Mueller in the Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft. Now, the probably regret that they ever traded valuable draft picks to the San Jose Sharks for him. He was an okay defenseman last year but the experiment should be over. There are other players that should be in the lineup over him. It makes it even worse that Ty Smith didn’t make the team but Mirco Mueller did.

He seems to make a mistake that leads to a goal for the opposition in every game he plays. He is a stay at home defenseman that doesn’t do his part as well as he should. He provides little to no offense so if he can’t defend at the NHL level then he shouldn’t be there regularly. He has one goal and no assists for one point in 30 games this year. That is not enough offense for a guy who isn’t that good defensively.

The Devils defense isn’t that good but there are some other options that will be available to them in the near future. Mueller is a restricted free agent after this season so it would be in their best interest to move on from him. They want to be a better team so they need to use better players. It is time to accept their losses with Mueller and just move on.
