The New Jersey Devils are thrilled to be having their stud center represent them at the All-Star game. The Metropolitan Team should be quite good.

The New Jersey Devils know what they have in Nico Hischier. They took him with the first overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. He’s set to be one of the core pieces on the team for a long time. We’ve seen the points starting to come for him. They weren’t there as much in the early part of the season, but he has taken command of the team since they traded Taylor Hall.

Kyle Palmieri was originally selected to be the Devils All-Star and Hischier was a nominee to be the “Last Man In”. Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie won the vote, but Nico was put in any way due to Palmieri injury status. It is a big opportunity for him to be on the same stage as all of the best players in the league. Guys like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, David Pastrnak, and Patrick Kane will all be there showing off their skills with Hischier right there.

If Hischier can keep up those offensive numbers along with all of the other little things he does to help the team, he will prove to be an All-Star for years to come. Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin aren’t going to be his teammates this year despite their great seasons. It is a bit of a letdown since it would be a great opportunity for Hischier to play next to greatness, but there are plenty of other elite players he will have a chance to skate alongside in this game. It could be a great perspective of what it is like to be a star in the league.

Hischier could end up being the best player on the Devils for a long time through some good runs or Jack Hughes could slightly pass him up. Either way, they are going to be perennial All-Stars for a long time. It is good to know that the players you would expect to be there are on the young side. 2020 is the first of many for Hischier. He seems to be excited about this opportunity to play on this type of stage and represent New Jersey.

He will play for the Metropolitan Division in the three on three tournament. Kris Letang is the captain of the team and they will also be joined by Mathew Barzal, Travis Konecny, Chris Kreider, T.J. Oshie, John Carlson, Seth Jones, Jaccob Slavin, Braden Holtby, and Tristan Jarry. It is a good team, but some of the usual suspects are missing this year. They will have their work cut out for them against the Atlantic Division in the first round.

No matter what happens, it is good that our boy Nico Hischier will get to enjoy himself. Hopefully, he is able to learn a thing or two that helps him as he moves forward. He will have to take that and bring it north of the border when he meets his Devils teammates to play the Ottawa Senators on Monday night. This All-Star game, however, is going to be must-see TV for those who knew Nico would be a great player one day.
