With the New Jersey Devils once again looking to sell at this year’s NHL Trade Deadline, this one might hit a little different. We could actually see some long-term pieces getting sold to the highest bidder.

For the weeks following the Taylor Hall trade, and the ensuing move to fire GM Ray Shero, it seems that just about everyone on the New Jersey Devils is on the market. We’ve heard the likes of Sami Vatanen, Travis Zajac, Andy Greene, Kyle Palmieri and Miles Wood in trade rumors. However, we could actually see a surprising trade we didn’t see coming.

We say this every year, and it never really happens. Last year, the Devils only traded players who were on expiring contracts, and Shero made it a point to come out and say he had no plan to trade anyone with term on their deals, especially not Taylor Hall. This year is not years past. Things are just different.

For one, the Devils are looking to him somewhat of a reset button. The only way they can do that is to open up some spots on the roster. Obviously, there are going to be trades. Certain players on the final year of their contract are going to get moved. Yet, that’s not going to be the wholesale changes the Devils need.

They need to move pieces to get good returns, and the only way to make that happen is to open up the vault. Everything should be on the table for the right price. Who are some of the players that might get moved that would make our jaws drop?
