Things haven’t been great for the New Jersey Devils but when they play the right way they are capable of getting a few wins.

The New Jersey Devils earned a big win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. It has been a tough stretch even though they went into this game on a four-game point streak. This big 5-0 win makes it a five-game point streak for the team. It is a team that is not going to the playoffs but they are a team that can play spoiler and works on good habits for next season.

The Devils were leading this game 13 seconds into it. Blake Coleman added another tally for his 20th goal of the season that quickly into the game. The Devils took off from there and didn’t look back. They were pretty good in all assets of the game to earn the victory. They scored goals at even strength, shorthanded, and on the power play.

They also received some great goaltending from MacKenzie Blackwood. The Devils were very opportunistic in the victory. The Flyers outshot them 46-18, but still lost by five goals. There is no doubt that the Devils scored when given the chance and Blackwood made a whole bunch of saves. Good goaltending is key to winning in the NHL and Blackwood gave that to the Devils.

Going into the game, the Flyers led the NHL in goals-against average at home. 13 seconds into the game when Coleman set the tone for the game, you knew things were going to be good. The Flyers are in the middle of an intense playoff race in the Eastern Conference, so the Devils definitely did their best to play spoiler.

It is proof that when everyone on the Devils does their job, they can win some games. It doesn’t always have to be pretty, but they can do it. It makes it even more impressive when you consider that Nico Hischier and Sami Vatanen were absent from the lineup. The team came together and beat their rivals pretty soundly in this one.

The team needs some of its trade bait to keep playing well so the Devils can maximize their returns on them. The trade deadline looms so fans should enjoy the wins while they are there. The Devils are back in action on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Kings in Newark. It should be an intriguing matchup between two teams that will be in the lottery again.
