New Jersey Devils: Five Teams That Could Use Wayne Simmonds

Columbus Blue Jackets

The best story in the NHL is the Columbus Blue Jackets. They lost so many key players in free agency like Artemi Panarin, Sergei Bobrovsky, Matt Duchene, and Ryan Dzingel. Those are all guys who were good for them during their playoff run last year and they were gone in a flash. They were left with a group of hungry players that wanted to prove the world wrong. They are doing a good job of that right now.

They have one of the best defense pairs in the league in Seth Jones and Zach Werenski. Outside of them, they get everything done by the committee. They also had what was perceived to be one of the weakest goaltending duos in the league with Joonas Korpisalo as their starter. Then, he played very well and they found a hidden gem with Elvis Merzlikins playing as well as he has. Simmonds joining this team could really help them get over the hump and into the playoffs.

If Simmonds joined a team like this, he would fit right in. He plays hard and does his best every game. The Blue Jackets being a model of that this year might get their head coach John Tortorella named as the Coach of the Year. Simmonds would be perfect for that hard-working bottom-six they have there in Columbus. Who knows, they might even surprise some people and win a playoff round again this season.
