The New Jersey Devils played their big game against the Calgary Flames via NHL 20 on Thursday night and earned a big victory.
The New Jersey Devils were supposed to play the Calgary Flames last night at the Prudential Center. Instead, the Coronavirus outbreak caused the NHL to pause and everybody is stuck at home. The Devils instead played their game via EA Sports NHL 20. They played a real-life simulation and streamed it online for all fans to watch on multiple different platforms.
The game had a bit of twist and turns. For one, Cory Schneider made 98 saves on 102 shots in the big victory. The cool part about it is that Devils beat reporter Amanda Stein interviewed Schneider about his big victory via social media. It was a great performance by him in the 6-4 victory over a very good Flames team.
It was a big night for New Jersey’s young players. Pavel Zacha stood out the most as he scored two goals and had one assist to go with it. He wasn’t the only player with three points as Miles Wood had one goal and two assists. Nico Hischier had another great game of his own as he had a goal and an assist. Michael McLeod also chipped in two points of his own.
Janne Kuokkanen seems to be adjusting to life with the New Jersey Devils as well as he collected two assists on the first two goals. He has been very good since coming to New Jersey in the Sami Vatanen trade and things were no different in the NHL 20 sim. Jack Hughes was one of the goal scorers assisted by Kuokkanen. All of these young players are going to be super important to the New Jersey Devils in real life as much as they are in the video game.
Life without real NHL hockey is less than ideal but keeping everyone safe is the most important thing. It was a fun thing to do in a time with no sports going on. It is hard to tell if the Devils will get to play again this season because even if the NHL does resume, they might go straight to the playoffs. The Devils aren’t going there so we will see what it is they decide to do.
