P.K. Subban

It came out the other day that P.K. Subban is going to be hosting a game show for the NHL while the season is on “pause”. He also went on a conference call this week representing some of the biggest NHL stars in the league. Clearly, he’s looking for things to do during this break.

Subban said in that very same conference call that he hopes the NHL returns with every team making the playoffs. He wants the Devils to play some meaningful hockey down the stretch. He’s trying to stay in shape since none of us know when the season could return, if it’s going to return at all.

Subban was playing some of his best hockey of the season when the NHL pressed pause. He had four assists in his last five games, and the offense was finally there. His defense was much, much better, and he actually helped Mirco Mueller look like a legitimate NHL defenseman. The best defensemen are able to lift up their linemates, and that was finally what Subban was doing.

He’s never going to be the $9 million defenseman he was in Montreal. That’s okay, since the Devils aren’t in a bad cap situation. However, they just need him to be a legitimate top-line defenseman. He needs to show he can overcome the lost step in his agility, and transition his game to a smart positioning one where every so often he uses his offensive talent to put the Devils on the board.
