The New Jersey Devils have a lot of question marks and one of them is their second goalie. Can Gilles Senn be one of the options in that role?

The New Jersey Devils have a lot of issues with their team to address. Whenever the offseason does start, they need to pick a new general manager and coach. They also need some help with their depth, but as the youngest team in the league, don’t expect them to take any major leaps this summer. They have a lot of raw talent that still needs development.

With that said, they have one really good goaltender. MacKenzie Blackwood has shown that he can be a number-one goalie in the NHL. Cory Schneider used to be one of the best goalies in the world, but injuries and time away have led to his downfall. He was okay down the stretch this year, but that came after a long stint in the minors with the Binghamton Devils.

It makes people wonder about the future of goaltender Gilles Senn. He was taken by New Jersey with a 5th-round pick, 129th overall back in 2017. The native of Switzerland is already 24 years old. He is a big kid standing at 6’5″ as he tries to get his professional career going. His time with Binghamton went pretty well and he played in two games for New Jersey.

In those two games with the big club, he had a 3.42 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. He had 27 games played with Binghamton where he had a 2.77 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. Things started to go Binghamton’s way in the second half of the year and Senn was there for it.

There is a good chance that the Devils bring someone else in to be Blackwood’s backup, especially if they cut or trade Cory Schneider. That leaves Senn to continue on in Binghamton for a while. Obviously, anything can happen but it should be good for him to continue to develop his skills in the American League.  The Devils may see him at some point in 2020-21 if there is an injury but for now, we should continue to root for Senn to get better for the future.
