Helge Grans

The New Jersey Devils need some more defensemen in the organization. They have some young studs like Ty Smith and Kevin Bahl that they hope pan out one day but they still need to stock the cupboard as time goes on. Helge Grans could be the type of guy that they look to if they want to reach out to grab him. He is projected to be somewhere in the 17-30 range.

He currently plays for the Malmo Redhawks of the Swedish Hockey League. He is a pretty big kid at 6’3″ and 192 lbs. He is currently 17 years old but will turn 18 in mid-May. He is probably not going to be ready for the National Hockey League for a while but his time will come. He is signed for one more year with the Malmo Redhawks so more time to develop there is incoming.

New Jersey may or may not be willing to reach for good defensemen this year but if they are, Grans is one of the good options. Sometimes, drafting those Swedish kids works out for teams because they really reach their stride in their 18 or 19-year-old seasons. Grans might be a guy like that but some team will need to take a chance on him.
