Five Retired Devils Players We Hope Get Twitter Like Eli Manning
The New Jersey Devils have a bunch of retired players that would be fun to see get Twitter accounts like Eli Manning.
The New Jersey Devils have some players that have awesome personalities online right now. It is fun to see guys like Connor Carrick, P.K. Subban, and Nico Hischier having some fun, but it isn’t like every player on the team is a Twitter guy. You can’t even say that there are lots of alumni who are big into Twitter or interacting with fans online.
A lot of people who root for the Devils also root for the New York Giants of the National Football League. Their former quarterback, Eli Manning, just retired and finally showed his personality online. Over the weekend, he made a Twitter account so he can take part in the mad world of tweeting. It was perfectly in time for him to live-tweet his brother Peyton Manning in a gold match with Tiger Woods against Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson.
Well, people can argue all day about whether or not Manning should be in the Hall of Fame, but nobody is arguing that he is a fun guy to have on Twitter. Now the question remains, what New Jersey Devils alumni would it be fun to have on Twitter? There are plenty of them that would be fun to see them interact with fans more. We have seen some of them make appearances along the way but seeing some in the spotlight of Twitter and interacting with fans would be special.
Some of these guys have big personalities and they helped the Devils to the best years of the franchise’s history. These are the five former Devils players that we would like to see come on Twitter as Eli Manning did:
85. . LW. New Jersey Devils. Patrik Elias. 26. player
One of the greatest players in the history of the New Jersey Devils is Patrik Elias. He is the team’s all-time leading scorer and probably the best forward in the team’s history loaded with great forwards. Elias won the Stanley Cup with New Jersey in 2000 and 2003 and was a pivotal part of all of them. He would be a lot of fun to have online to interact with if he ever desired to connect with the fans on that sort of level.
Elias had 408 goals and 617 assists for 1025 points in 1240 games. He spent every single year of his career with New Jersey which means just a little bit more to us as fans. He is one of the most underrated players in the history of the NHL but definitely appreciated by the fans of the Devils. In addition to being an elite player, he was an elite human being that a lot of people enjoyed being around.
If Elias actually used his Twitter on a regular basis, he would absolutely have the personality to make it fun. He may or may not ever get back into hockey in terms of coaching or management but for now, he would be great to have on Twitter. There isn’t really a better way for athletes to communicate with fans than Twitter and having Elias on there would be a blast.

The New Jersey Devils have five players that you would consider the pillars of the team’s history. Scott Stevens is one of them as he is one of the greatest players to ever play for New Jersey. He is also one of the greatest defensemen in the history of the NHL. He is in the Hall of Fame, has won the Stanley Cup three times, and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs for his efforts in 2000.
Stevens had 196 goals and 712 assists for 908 points in 1635 games. In addition to being very good offensively, he was elite in his own end. He was a remarkable plus-395 in his career. In any year he played in the National Hockey League, he was never a minus-player. He came to New Jersey in 1991 and played there every season after. He had time with the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues in the seasons leading up to those years in New Jersey.
Devils fans should want Stevens to be on Twitter for a lot of reasons. For one, he is a very smart hockey man. He has been a personality on NHL Network for a reason. The man knows his stuff so seeing his opinion about things online would be awesome. He is also just such an important piece to the history of this team that having him in our lives just a little bit more would be awesome.
New Jersey Devils. Colin White. 5. player. 85. . D
Colin White was a pretty good depth defenseman in his time with the New Jersey Devils. He had spent his entire career there with them until his final year which he spent with the San Jose Sharks. He did win the Stanley Cup with New Jersey in 2000 and 2003 which are his two top career accomplishments.
White wasn’t this all-world defenseman offensively or anything like that but he played his role well enough to be a good piece on a multi-time Stanley Cup-winning roster. He had 21 goals and 108 assists for 129 points in his NHL career. All but four of those points came with New Jersey. He was the perfect depth defenseman for the style of game that New Jersey was trying to play.
White would be solid on Twitter. He has a personality that people might want to hear from as time goes on. He had an appearance on “Impractical Jokers” which is one of the funniest shows on television right now. In order to have a good time on that show, you need a sense of humor that White clearly has. It would be very entertaining to have a guy like Colin White come out of nowhere and join the world of Twitter.

There are a lot of players in the history of the New Jersey Devils that were so important in ways that don’t always show up on the stat sheets. In the days of this team’s real playoff success, a player needed to be very good at every end of the rink in order to have a chance to make it. One of those solid pieces was Grant Marshall.
Marshall came to New Jersey just in time to win the 2003 Stanley Cup. He played 10 games for them after being acquired by the Dallas Stars where he also won a Stanley Cup. He was a great addition to a team trying to win a third in a span of nine years.
You learned about the time that Colin White appeared on “Impractical Jokers” earlier and Grant Marshall was there with him to partake in the skit. Marshall and White got to blast slapshots on Sal and Q as they lost the game for the day so they had to face punishment. It was brilliant to watch as fans of the team seeing the Devils get some big-time exposure. Marshall is on Facebook, but it would be awesome to see him get on Twitter.
23. player. 85. . C. New Jersey Devils. Scott Gomez
There might not be a bigger personality amongst non-Twitter having New Jersey Devils alumni than Scott Gomez. He is a brilliant person who had a brilliant career. He played with the New Jersey Devils for a total of eight years over two stints with them. He also spent time with Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, and St. Louis Blues. He is a guy who won the Stanley Cup two times with New Jersey in 2000 and 2003.
In that 2000 Cup year, he also won the Calder Trophy. He had a total of 181 goals and 575 assists for 756 points in 1079 NHL games played. He was an awesome guy to have on the team to lead the depth scoring. He was a brilliant passer of the puck which is evident in his 575 career assists. He was extra special with the Devils in his first stint with them.
Gomez is active on social media now but not Twitter. He has been a guest on “Spittin’ Chiclets” where he had an electric interview. They talked for an hour and barely got past his first season because of how good the conversation was about his rookie year. He is probably going to be a guy who is frequently rotated in as a frequent guest now according to hosts Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette.

Gomez has been starting to use Instagram a lot. He has a verified account that he doesn’t use as often but his non-verified account has been seeing him very active with his new series called “Scottie’s House”. He seems to be having fun with it so it would be cool to see him come on Twitter.
