New Jersey Devils: Some Great Players Missed Winning Stanley Cup

There are a few great Devils players that never got to raise the Stanley Cup.

The New Jersey Devils have had some great players play for them throughout their history. The ones that come to mind off the bat are the ones that have their numbers retired in Scott Stevens, Ken Daneyko, Scott Niedermayer, Patrik Elias, and Martin Brodeur. All five of them were great at their positions and helped the team win multiple Stanley Cup titles in their careers. It was great for guys like that, but some players in this team’s history were not so lucky.

There are some great years in this team’s history that the team didn’t win the Cup. The team was pretty bad in the 1980s so most of those great players that didn’t win came after the 2005 lockout. From 1994-2003, the team was very good. Multiple conference final appearances and Cup Final appearances, they became one of the league’s most storied franchises quickly.

From 2005 to 2012, they were one of the best teams in the league but had no Cup to show for it. Some players were there for all of those years but moved on without ever winning the last game of the season. Players on this list are all very good but just weren’t able to help the team over that final hump. Their last chance came in 2012 when they defeated the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final to advance to the Cup Final where they lost to the Los Angeles Kings.
