The New Jersey Devils could really use a sniper like Patrik Laine.

The New Jersey Devils need some help at just about every position. Everyone knows that they need help on defense and a backup goalie, but it is also important that they get some more top-six wingers to help their two number one overall centerman. Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes have each had flashes of brilliance but they both need some help. Maybe the New Jersey Devils should consider making another big trade for Patrik Laine this offseason.

There are a lot of knocks on Laine as far as his compete level or his character, but there is no doubt that he is a great player. He is a sniper through and through. He still has a bit to go in terms of his ceiling, but he has an explosive shot that makes you wonder if he can actually reach that 45-50 goal plateau one day.

He had 30 goals in 2018-19. It’s a nice total, but 18 of those came in one month. The other 12 of them were spread out over the other five months. He had 28 before the pause in 2019-20 but his assists, and naturally, points were up from the year before. He makes you wonder if he is going to keep developing and help himself grow as an all-around scorer.

If the Devils made a play for Laine, it would be a boost for them as they try to score more goals. They can get help defensively as well, but getting some help in their top-six is extremely important. If they wanted to pull the trigger, these three packages might get it done:
