Nico Hischier has become a real fan favorite for the New Jersey Devils.
The New Jersey Devils are a team that is hoping that can get its young players to lead them to the Stanley Cup one day. They have a whole lot of young players that need to take multiple steps before they get there so this is going to be a process. One of those young players is Nico Hischier. They took Hischier with the first overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft and he has been a very good player for them in his first three seasons.
He did not light the world up offensively like Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews did before him but that doesn’t mean he was awful in that department either. He has 51 goals and 84 assists for 135 career points in 209 regular-season games. When his numbers start to rise, there is no reason to believe that he won’t be considered one of the top-centers in the league.
They drafted Jack Hughes with the hopes of him becoming their offensive exclusive center to go with Hischierwho is the two-way guy. You might think of a guy like Jonathan Toews or Patrice Bergeron when you think of the top two-way centers of the past decade. Hischier may or may not become as good as those guys but that is the way that he plays.
Not only has Hischeir been an impressive player on the ice as far as his skill, but he has also been an impressive leader at a very young age. In his NHL debut, he went after a Colorado Avalanche player for kneeing Kyle Palmieri and injuring him. It was pretty obvious that Hischier was going to be a great leader for this team from the day he stepped into a game at 18 years old. There is little doubt that he has the honor of captain in his future.

Fans also seem to love everything about Hischier. He hasn’t had a point per game season yet but we all know it is coming eventually. This is all coming up right now because New Jersey Devils Twitter was bored so they decided to get Nico Hischier trending. Even the main Devils account got involved which was pretty cool to see. It is awesome to have a player like this on the team we cheer for and it is going to be so awesome watching him play again whenever hockey returns for them.
