The New Jersey Devils should be watching some of the pending free agents playing in the playoffs.

The New Jersey Devils didn’t make the cut for the 24 team playoffs that are occurring as a result of COVID-19. They were only a few points behind the Montreal Canadiens with two games in hand but it just wasn’t in their cards. They have to sit there and watch everyone else have a good time (unless you’re a New York Rangers fan) and wait until next year. They are one of seven teams that didn’t receive an invite to the resume to play tournaments.

Well, now the focus shifts to next year. We know that the Devils are going to make the seventh-overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft later this year. They also might have two more 1st-round picks coming their way, depending on the results of two other series. There are players like Lucas Raymond, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Cole Perfetti, and Alex Holtz that might be available, and they all seem like they are going to be stars.

The NHL Draft is a great way to add organizational depth to your franchise. They are really hoping to add a solid young player to their core with their first pick. This is a very good draft, so they just might be able to. They also might be looking to make a splash in free agency so they can help themselves develop their young kids.

This is a young roster that doesn’t have much money spent on it. They can add a free agent to be a presence in the clubhouse if they wanted to. These are five good ones to watch that are currently playing in the playoffs:
