New Jersey Devils: 3 Trade Packages For Vince Dunn

The New Jersey Devils need some defensive help and Vince Dunn might be available.

The New Jersey Devils are a team that is watching the playoffs from home. It is well documented that they have failed to meet expectations for two years in a row since making it to the playoffs in 2018. It hasn’t been much fun with this team for a while, so they really need to start turning it around. Their biggest problem right now is depth and defense. They could help their cause if they made a big trade with the St. Louis Blues.

Vince Dunn is a young defenseman that the Blues might be willing to move for a few reasons. They probably don’t love the idea of moving a young defenseman that good, but there might be a few big positives in doing so. They have a few contract-related issues that the Devils might be able to take advantage of.

The Devils, as it stands right now, ended the season with the most available salary cap space, even after paying half the salaries of Taylor Hall, Sami Vatanen, and Wayne Simmonds. They’ve shown that they are willing to take advantage of having all of that cap space in the past and they shouldn’t stop now. You can hope that they do it a bit smarter than in the past but they should absolutely consider all options.

The Blues, in all likelihood, want to get their captain Alex Pietrangelo signed. He is one of their best players in their run to the 2019 Stanley Cup so they probably want him back forever. It makes sense but they are going to have to do some shifting to get it done. They already traded Jake Allen to the Montreal Canadiens for some cap relief so maybe there is more coming.
