The New Jersey Devils have two former fan favorites in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The New Jersey Devils haven’t been in the Eastern Conference Finals since they defeated the New York Rangers to advance to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final. It was an awesome time and something Devils fans will never forget for a variety of reasons. It’s always best for Devils fans to see them succeed, but this year is giving us a bit of a special treat.

There might not be two more beloved players to play for the franchise over the past five years than Andy Greene and Blake Coleman. They each played huge rolls on this team playing completely different positions at different times of their careers. Green was the captain of the team and Coleman was one of the league’s best role players.

Well, each player was allowed to play for a team that was going to the playoffs. Greene was traded to the New York Islanders and Coleman was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was sad to see them both leave the New Jersey Devils after a lot of very good years for this team, but it had to be done. Each player earned them a pretty good return that could help them in the long run.

Coleman’s Tampa Bay Lightning advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals last week after defeating the Boston Bruins in the second round of the playoffs. He was great in that series and made some serious noise with his two new linemates on the third line. He is helping them get what they need as far as depth in 2020.

Greene, on the other hand, was just brought to the New York Islanders to be a steady veteran option on the back end. He was tied with Travis Zajac for the longest-tenured Devils player at the time of his trade so you know that he was beloved. He was a great captain for a long time but it is nice to see him have a chance at finally lifting that Stanley Cup. Both of these players were very popular so it should be fun to see how they go up against each other.
