The New Jersey Devils need to have a good showing at the 2020 NHL Draft.

A very compelling Stanley Cup Final between the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning is on the verge of ending after Friday night’s game. They have each had a magnificent run, but this is signaling the end to the longest hockey season in history. The New Jersey Devils haven’t played since March and we don’t know when we’ll see them again but it is exciting to think about that day. Now that the 2019-20 season is about to finish, the talk about the draft is heating up.

The New Jersey Devils might be the biggest key in this draft as they have three first-round picks. It is very rare for a team to make that many selections in one round but for not that is exactly what they are scheduled to do. They currently sit with pick number 7, 18, and 20. There is always a chance that they trade one or more but they also might use up all three to add to their organizational depth.

The 18th and 20th pick should be majorly influenced by what happens earlier in the draft. There are a lot of great players available here in 2020, so this could be huge for the Devils. The seventh pick is similar in the fact that what happens 1-6 will influence what they do, but we will go into it with more of an idea who will be available.

We know that the New York Rangers are going to select Alexis Lafreniere with the first-overall pick. Then, the Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators will each get one of Quinton Byfield or Tim Stutzle, and a lot of people seem to believe that the Detroit Red Wings will select Cole Perfetti. After that, one of Marco Rossi, Jamie Drysdale, Alexander Holtz, or Lucas Raymond is most likely the pick for the Devils. One would think, based on scouting, that whichever of those four is left at pick seven will become a Devil.

There have been some rumors floating around that the Devils have been talking to a few of the prospects. Jake Sanderson, Marco Rossi, Yaroslav Askarov, and Jack Quinn are three names that have been linked to New Jersey so far in the rumor mill. No matter what side of the fence you fall on as far as who you want them to pick, talking about the draft is awesome. Soon enough, hopefully, these selections will be on the ice helping the Devils become a perennial playoff team once again.
