First things first. The dream scenarios that would make the New Jersey Devils a better team would be something along the lines of: Alexis Lafreniere falls to seven, Edmonton trades Connor McDavid while retaining 50% of his salary for the negotiating rights for Kevin Rooney, and the Devils sign Alex Pietrangelo and Torey Krug for a total of $2 million. Obviously, those are impossible dreams, so let’s get a little more realistic. There is a difference between fever dreams and a dream scenario. For a dream scenario to happen, the stars would have to align. The stars are not that far from each other and just need a little push.

This offseason, anything seems to be possible. Lou Lamoriello has said that he thinks players no one thought would be moved will be shown the door. If a man of Lou’s stature is saying something like that, it is something to keep your eye on. In this weird world we are living in now. Expect the unexpected. Then again, it’s entirely possible that it’s all smoke and mirrors and we just have another run of the mill offseasons.

All of the following scenarios would be a great thing for the Devils organization. All would improve the Devils organization as a whole. Nothing went to plan in any way, shape, or form this past season. For the Devils, it was a dream offseason. It became a nightmare really quickly. We have learned as Devils fans that with expectations comes great pressure. When the expectations are not met, things seem a lot worse than they actually are.

Tom Fitzgerald has himself set up for a great offseason. He proved that he could hang with other general managers by his moves at the trade deadline. With the moves he made, he also has been given expectations from the fan base that he will make some splashes. He seems like a man who will make a move only if it is for the betterment of the organization. Not just to make a move just to make a move. Well, the Wayne Simmonds trade is the exception to the rule. With these dream scenarios, he will continue to show he is the right man for the job and the expectations will be met.
