The New Jersey Devils need to own their selections in the 2020 NHL Draft.
The New Jersey Devils have been heavy hitters in the last few NHL Drafts. In 2017, as the lottery winners, they selected Nico Hischier with the first overall pick in the draft. In 2018, as a playoff team, they selected Ty Smith with the 17th overall pick. Then last year, they won the lottery again and selected Jack Hughes with the first overall pick. They have also made some significant draft day trades over the past few years like Kyle Palmieri and P.K. Subban.
We don’t know exactly how it is going to go this year, but we do know that as of right now, the New Jersey Devils have three selections in the 1st round. There is always the possibility that some of the picks are flipped for other picks, prospects, or players but it is unclear what the trends will be yet.
There are some very good players in this draft. Most experts suggest that this is the type of draft that the first round talent extends well beyond the first round. The top-ten talent even creeps into the late teens and perhaps the early 20s. That has to be exciting for Devils fans who (most likely) will see their team pick at 7, 18, and 20.
So who are the Devils going to select? They have needs at almost every position so it is hard to say. There have been rumors floating around all over the place but nothing seems to be a lock by any means. The seventh overall pick will likely be determined by who goes 4-6 and the 18th and 20th pick will largely be influenced by what happens ahead of them. All that matters is that the New Jersey Devils really improve their organization. This is how the first round might go for all 31 selections:
