The New Jersey Devils have selected Alexander Holtz with the seventh overall pick.

The New Jersey Devils used their first pick of the 2020 NHL Draft to select Alexander Holtz. The seventh-overall pick will come to New Jersey and join a very young core that is trying to take the next step. It might be a year or two before he comes to the show but when he does a lot of people are going to be very happy. He is eventually going to come over from Sweden where he plays for Djurgardem. He is a right win that is known to be a pure goal scorer.

The big key to his game is his shot. He has one of the very best shots in the entire draft which makes him the perfect fit on this team. The Devils have so many great playmakers on their team and in their system so adding a shooter like Holtz could be a brilliant move.

They left playmakers on the table, specifically Marco Rossi who fell to the Minnesota Wild at nine, but they have a bunch of those. You have to figure that when Holtz arrives in the NHL, he will get a chance with one of Nico Hischier or Jack Hughes. These two centers are potential superstars and will be a few years into the league when Holtz is ready. He is a perfect age and fit for what this organization is doing.

This is great for the future New Jersey power play as well. We don’t know the future of Kyle Palmieri so adding a sniper in Holtz might help that cause as well. With the previously named centers, along with guys like Nikita Gusev, Jesper Bratt, and Damon Severson there on the power play, they could really make teams pay for taking penalties.

He is probably going to continue playing in Sweden next season but it won’t be long after that before he comes to New Jersey. It probably won’t be long before he gets that suggested chance with one of the top two centers and establishes himself as an NHL top-six forward. By that time, he should be even better at his craft which is going to make him a dangerous player at the NHL level.

The New Jersey Devils could be looking to add free agents. light. Related Story

Don’t be too surprised if he comes in and starts scoring goals right away, especially if one of Nico Hischier or Jack Hughes is out there set him up. All of these things make him appear to be a great pick for New Jersey so now they need to make sure they handle him right.
