New Jersey Devils’ Adam Henrique’s goal call by Doc Emrick will stand the test of time.

The New Jersey Devils were so lucky to have Doc Emrick as their personal announcer for a very long time. Most teams just remember him from national games but the Devils fans were able to enjoy him on random Tuesday nights against the Carolina Hurricanes or any other regular-season game. Well, their most fond memory of him, however, came in one of those previously mentioned national games. It was his call of Adam Henrique‘s overtime goal in game six of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Rangers.

The puck was thrown to the puck of the net by Alexei Ponikarovsky and then swiped in front by Ilya Kovalchuk before Adam Henrique poked it past Henrik Lundqvist. This goal advanced New Jersey to the Stanley Cup Final over their bitter rival.

The goal was so iconic because of the call made by Mike Emrick. He screamed: “They score! Henrique! It’s over!” after describing the chaos that took place in the offensive zone for the Devils. It was a great moment for the team and the man who called their games for so many years was able to give the fans a moment like that.

Around the National Hockey League, Doc has made some other tremendous calls for other teams but nothing compares to his call of this goal by Henrique. When Emrick announced his retirement yesterday, Adam Henrique himself even had something to say about it. There is no doubt that the moment is special for so many people including the folks who had a part in creating it.

There is no doubt that this fanbase and all involved with this team will cherish that moment for the rest of the time. 50 years from now, people will recall the Henrique goal and the Doc Emrick call that made it so special. In retirement, he will be remembered as the guy who used over 100 verbs to describe a pass or a shot, and this call will be used in highlight packages to prove it for decades. It will stand the test of time and Devils fans will never forget it.
