The Devils are in a great spot with their farm system going into 2020-21.

The New Jersey Devils 2020-21 Prospect Pyramid has a lot of great players on it. They have the making of a strong, deep organization. They aren’t there at the NHL level yet, but a lot of that depends on how these prospects pan out. They already have guys like Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, and Mackenzie Blackwood making an impact at the NHL level, so adding to that list would go a long way in this team taking the next step.

The object of the Prospect Pyramid was to show the levels of prospects that the Devils have without putting them in number rankings. They don’t really have a tier-one prospect on the pyramid because that spot is reserved for those players who are can’t miss. Tier two through tier five, however, have plenty of great players that could make an impact someday. Some need more development than others but the Devils are in a good spot.

With the core already budding at the NHL level, they need to surround them with as much help as they can. A lot of the team’s success revolves around 13 and 86 reaching their potential but even if they do, it will all be for not if some of these other prospects don’t turn out. There are some that could impact the team right when the league returns and some may take a bit.

One prospect worth singling out is Alexander Holtz. He is in tier-two of the Prospect Pyramid and looks like he could be a star in the NHL one day. This is a prospect that is very good at scoring goals. His shot is incredible and he also knows how to find the scoring areas when he doesn’t have the puck. When we woke up on Saturday morning we woke up to some sweet highlights of him scoring in the SHL and it had all Devils fans very exciting for him.

Some fans are pretty down on the team after the way they played in 2019-20. The NHL team was awful but the AHL team turned out to be very good. They were the hottest team in the league when they were paused for COVID-19. It was the making of a good AHL team because they had great young players making an impact.

A few of these players are going to start trickling into the NHL over the next few years and the Devils are going to get better with each one. People outside of the organization view New Jersey as one of the top prospect teams which says a lot about where they were going. Hopefully, some of these guys can put it all together to help them become a regular championship contender.
